our roots

Originally from South Africa, I studied Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a distinction in Painting in 1999.

I now live in Oxford UK, with my husband and four lively boys, the youngest are five-year-old twins. My house is wonderfully noisy and full of children; my studio is my sanctuary, a quiet haven where I recharge my batteries through creative work.

I started my career in the Publications Office at the University of Oxford, before working for 6 years as an in-house designer/publications officer at an environmental charity. In 2011 I went fully freelance, providing graphic design, project management and print buying services to a range of clients in the education, charity and small business sectors.

In 2013 I discovered surface design and it was like a light bulb exploded in my brain. I suddenly understood how I could combine my artistic skills with my design skills and client liaison skills – it felt like I was coming full circle back to myself. Courses I have taken include:

  • Lilla Rogers’ Make Art That Sells courses (MATS A, MATS MBA, Portfolio Review Live and MATS Home Decor* (*Lilla Rogers and Margo Tantau)

  • Rachael Taylor’s The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design Modules 1-4

  • Victoria Johnson’s Create Christmas

  • Beth Kempton’s Reach, Teach, Profit and Business Soul Sessions.

  • Sara Tasker’s Insta Retreat

I’m now absolutely loving creating art for surface design collections - my work is my happy place! here.
